WINERY WENINGER
Since 1828 the Weninger family is committed to viticulture. Mindfully they handle their vines, because as the owners of this wonderful winery, they are very attached to their grounds. Located in a Hungarian town named Balf, the current owner Franz Weninger took over the winery from his father in the year 2000. The winery is located at the southern end of the Neusiedlerlake. Since the year 2000, Franz Weninger carries the responsibility as an independent wine producer. Weninger follows his own “winestyle” from the beginning on and therefor he is very commited. He works limitless but is still rooted, he lives for refinement and deepness and sees this as his task at all times. Franz Weninger learned his craft in the wine industry through his father in Horitschon and not only did he find his skill but also his passion! After completing his graduation at the Klosterneuburger HBLA for wine and plantation, he also absolved foreign internships worldwide. As Weninger himself likes to say: “to grow inwardly means do deepen- less is more, as the Europeans say”.
The challenge lies not only in the production of wines, but also in its aims and its balance. The balance again lies between reduction and oxidation. The Neusiedlerlake, which lies in the east, bring the warmth, while the hills in the west bring the coolness. Living grounds (such as micro and macro organism) brings the origin into the glas itself. The slate embossed vineyards are farmed organically and every work is handled with respect and is adapted to the plant. Even looking at the wine cellars, work is progressed very gentle and naturally. The Mash contact is a short process and the wine is stored in used old wooden barrels! The production of biodynamic wine is known as one of the hardest ways to produce wine, but Franz Weninger did not see another option! It is all about the finesse and the structure and that is one of the main reasons, why Franz Weninger sees the blue franconian wine as one of his favorites!
Since 2011, Franz Weninger and his wife also lead another winery located in central Burgenland. The next generation is also already in safe hands, since Franz Weninger and his wife have two sons, one named Paul who was born in 2009 and their youngest son Emil, who was born in 2013.
