WINERY PREISINGER
The Preisinger winery is quite a new operation among a young leader. Claus Preisinger was born in 1980 in Eisenstadt, Burgenland. He completed an apprenticeship in the higher federal institute for viticulture and enology. He, as he says himself was “shaped” in his time as an “Assistant Winemaker” at the Pannobile winemakery named Hans Nittnaus, whom he sees as his mentor. When it comes down to the winery, Preisinger considers his principles as: “In the vineyards like Rudolf Steiner, puristically in the cellar, fanatically considering quality, much on instinct, uncomplicated in life”. He sees his job as a winemaker as a privilege, because he is not captured to an office, he loves being at the fresh air, meaning that he moves forward in nature and has developed a feeling for the weather.
What Claus Preisinger brings into the bottle is pure, lowtech out of his stomach and very natural, as he describes. He does everything with concern but without heaviness. Making decisions, feelings, instinct, nose, mouth and stomach is what makes his wine special – on the one hand very simple and on the other hand very complicated. Depending on the year and mood, there may be other wines for example Bühl, that only occurs or is more or less produced in very good years.
Claus Preisinger has become very sensitive in the last years, because when you are outside almost all day you see the world thru different eyes, you develop a reference to plants, the ground, animals and our environment! Sustainability is therefore an important credo – “because you can taste it in the Wine”, Preisinger says! He is already at the top among Austrian red wine growers. Meanwhile he manages 19 Hektar.
His vineyards reach along the “Parndorfer Platt” located on the east side of the Neusiedler lake near Weiden /you can see to Gols and to the “Mönchhof”. Preisinger’s wines are a reflection of nature, because nor in the vineyard, nor in his wine cellar he does not interfere artificially, even if the result can be improved. Claus Preisinger is pleased because what nature gives us, cannot be manipulated.
