GULFI – Chiaramonte Gulfi
The winery was established in 1996 by Vito Catania. Since his early death in spring 2017, his proficient sons Matteo, Raffaele and Davide are leading the winery. It includes about 70 hectares in one of the best regions in the East of Sicily. Vito´s vision was to work out the differences of the territories meticulously. His advisory to the side was the as well known agronomist Salvo Foti. From the beginning on the editing was carried out by hand and Foti consequently pursued that the winery should be built up biologically. The white king grape Carricante from the east of Sicily, was selected by Salvo Foti at the Etna and was planted together with the Chardonnay Grape´s about a 100 km south of Monti Iblei. The wine stands out for subtle aromas, a clear acid, very low alcohol content and a big longevity. In its finesse and texture they remind us of a grand Burgundy and a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. On the Monti Iblei around 500 meters above sea level the fresh and fruity Nerojbleo also flourishes perfectely . The big Crus from Nero dÁvola grows in the region of Pachino- near the ocean on ancient vines, mostly standing alone and grown as Alberello. They carry the old dialect names of the parcels. In this growing zone, near the small town Avola which lies more south than Tunis, the Nero dÁvola vine has its origin! Over centuries she adapted to the climatic conditions and developed finesse and deepness as in no other part of Sicily!
